Spend four cents to make a one cent piece?

That's pretty interesting, I guess.

Honestly, I could care less if we got rid of the penny, that'd be less little things that I would have to carry around in my wallet.

But if we abolish the penny, what will replace "Give a penny take a penny" we've all grown so used to and fond of? What will life be like with the new "Give a dime take a dime"? or "Give a fifty or I take your life"? These are important factors that have to be considered here. And what about the extra pocket weight? I for one can say that I'm not about to sacrifice the comforting pound that bruises my left leg every day. That's just something that can't be bought. Sometimes I bulk up my wallet with Mr. Lincoln. What happens when I don't have the counterweight that I'm used to, and I lift my wallet right into my face?

And who wants increased production of the 2? Almost nobody has them, even though you can just go to the bank and ask for them. It's the "rarity" that makes them special. I don't want to be walking into Wal-Mart, only to see some joe paying for his nose whistle with twos. He doesn't respect it. He doesn't understand how it was to live knowing you had something special that others didn't have. He never spent his Friday nights talking to Thomas Jefferson about politics. He never re-enacted the signing of the Declaration of Independence in his head. And he never played army men with his currency, in which the two was the most experienced and capable man out there on the field. To him, the two is just another piece of cloth with which we make financial transactions.

Pennies are the backbone of this society. Without them, we are all lost.

I heard they got rid of the penny (or the equivalent) Down Under, and they just round everything to the nearest nickel. People end up losing or gaining at most about a dollar per year.

Besides, what has Lincoln done for us lately? Unless there's another emancipation on the horizon or something, I'm thinking he doesn't need both the five and the penny. Though I can't say I wouldn't want my face on the penny if they ever change their minds...
